Analysis

INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT

Initial discussion between client and QCD, covering the project objectives, timing and budget in general terms

PRELIMINARY RESEARCH

Client collects background material to help QCD understand the project. This information should explain why the project is necessary and what exactly is to be achieved by undertaking the project.

QCD works with the client to analyse the background material, introducing additional material which may be relevant from work on past projects and generally working with the client to unravel the key issues which need to dealt with.

Sometimes QCD carries out a design audit on a clients existing communication program, usually culminating in a written report detailing how the progam is working along with recommendations for improvement or adjustment.

BRIEFING SESSION

We have a "Briefing your Designer Checklist", which has been helpful to some clients.
Email me if you would like a copy of this at Bruce Duncan

Briefing points are discussed in detail. Most briefing sessions cover items such as:
• BACKGROUND
• COMMUNICATION TASK
• CONTENT
• TARGET MARKET
• STRATEGIES
• REPRODUCTION/DISTRIBUTION
• TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
• LONG TERM PLANS
• MANDATORIES
• BUDGET
• TIMING

It is often helpful to put the brief in writing and on some projects it is essential.

APPROVAL OF THE BRIEF

Client gains internal approval of the Brief if necessary and QCD agrees to supply a proposal within an agreed framework.
